Cricket Choir

Cricket Choir

Well I suppose everything in our surroundings can be an instrument. Well, why not a cricket? Or MANY of them?

These fine and talented crickets were recorded near the Berkshires in Massachusetts at night and in the woods. Non union crickets (shhh) I recorded over the course of a few nights to get a variety of performances. I then threw them in to protools, time-stretched for some granular vibe, pitched them, filtered them and added some verb. I was surprised how choir like it sounded when I layered them together. For that reason I included them all in one Multi.

What a lovely and useful idea for organic sound design! Reminds me of the good ole Atmosphere patch. I cannot give this anything else than 5 stars. I mean, you can’t write a symphonic score with it but then, that’s not what it’s for… or is it?

A ghostly granular choir made from…loads of crickets.
