Old retired Unix geek. Restarting my making music. Many of you don't know that I used to create a lot of music, of the computer generative ambient type. No I am not linking to any of it because it was pretty much shit. Then about 5 years ago I got into a major project. I got hold of several days of raw observation data for the VLA radio telescopes. For a long time I tried to massaged that data into something I could generate music from.... I finally gave up, and shelved that work. Now this week I have a new music making project. My studio set up is intentionally simple. I switch it on, press record and start playing. Most of the music is created this way, improvised, starting with a blank canvas. It means I can express myself more simply and freely without the need to compose and recompose. Everything happens quickly. I am intentionally limiting myself to a few good synths, and plug-ins, and samples. Feels good.
