Unleash the Untamed Sounds of ‘Defective Guitar & Keys’

Embark on a sonic adventure with ‘Defective Guitar & Keys,’ a Kontakt library that explores the unconventional beauty of imperfections. This collection of instruments harnesses the raw imperfections of a Fender Telecaster, a Crumar Roady, and a Moog Mother 32, capturing their unique quirks and glitches.

A World of Sonic Possibilities

The instruments in ‘Defective Guitar & Keys’ were meticulously crafted through a combination of analog and digital techniques. Each sound was recorded directly with a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24, capturing the nuances of the instruments and the effects of guitar pedals and a Yamaha SPX 90. These recordings were then further processed with Kontakt’s powerful effects system, adding layers of texture and sonic exploration.

Embrace the Imperfect

The ‘Defective Guitar & Keys’ library embraces the imperfections that make these instruments unique. The Telecaster’s distinctive twang, the Roady’s warm, analog keys, and the Moog Mother 32’s otherworldly textures are all captured in their raw, unpolished glory.

  • Perfectly Imperfect!

Defective Samples is a library that offers a selection of "defective" instrument patches. These pad style instruments have a really unique tone to them, riding the line between tonal and atonal. There's something beautiful about them, but something not quite right and it makes for a very inspiring set of sounds. I would love a filter built into the MW, but that's really nitpicking. This is otherwise a fantastic library!

  • Quirky and fun sounds!

These sounds use an interesting concept: some glitchy sounds were recorded, and then effects were very cleverly applied inside Kontakt. Strip those away, and you have a completely different sound. It starts with having a compelling raw sound very fun glitchiness! I'd love to know what pedals were employed! but the additional effects make it pretty magical. Another interesting aspect to this is that unless you were going to resample these sounds through the Kontakt effects, you couldn't port this library to other formats. I found these sounds playable, inspiring, and most importantly, fun!

  • Limited intentional imperfections

This is a bundle of 6 patches that you can explore some synthy and surely imperfect sounds. You will hear things such as random clicks popping, random distortions and pitch shifting. In my opinion this can create a very retro-cinematic feel, but at the same time it is kind of limited, especially if you consider that you have no control over anything.

  • Positively interesting...

It's surely a new take on otherwise overdone instruments, and it's really pleasing to hear such variation from the "normal". It's not my personal musical taste, but that's solely based on the sounds that I tend to prefer and not because of any fault in the instrument itself. Worth a download if you're looking for something new and interesting.
