I was given an old Upright Bass from the 50’s, that was in rough shape. I thought I might have it worked on to get playable but the endeavor proved not to be worth it. I decided to sample it in a different way. I used it as a drum set . I put snares on it, used a bass drum pedal, mallets, hit the strings, made fret noises , etc. I think the result was pretty earthy with some pretty indistinguishable sounds (my favorite!) I was going for the “What would Tom Waits like” kind of direction on this, assuming he actually used Kontakt instruments 🙂

Say no to instrument violence!... But maybe not this time?
Because Joshua has managed to pull some great percussive sounds out of this poor upright! I love most of the sounds, especially the more "snare" sounding ones. The sampling is great, though sometimes the tail cuts off very quickly, resulting in an unpleasant click sound. I wish there were one or two more dynamics for each one, because if you are about to repeat them, they might start sounding kind of artificial. I would also like to have coloured keys and better organization overall so I don't have to blindly guide myself to find a sample I like.
This is Pianobook all over!
This is Pianobook all over! The idea of taking something simple but exploring it in a new or different way. The percussion sounds here are top notch and very easily playable. It's also very easy to implement into most styles of 'filmic' music. Bravo Joshua!
Imaginative and Useful!
This sample pack is instantly playable, well recorded, and is a great addition to just about any mix. It's creative, organic, and inspiring. Love it!
Upright bass percussion surprise
A fun. off beat instrument with some sounds you might predict if you stopped to think about what kinds of percussive sounds you might get off an upright bass and a bunch you would not or, at least, a bunch I would not :-. Good tone and useful mixed in with other drums sometimes subtly and sometimes front and center.
Bang the Bass
A totally great and useful set of 'alternative' percussive sounds. Superb low end gags , scrapes, thrumms - is that an actual word? Just try A2 . . .
What an imaginative, creative library this is! Very expressive, very different. This is top-notch.
Percussive Bass adventure, Tom Waits for everyone
This is a really useful tool for creating rhythm freshness with unconventional tones and strikes. Once you have your rhythm track established, load this up and surprise yourself and your listeners. This is special, really very special.
