Gusli Perepyolochka v2
An authentic folk string instrument made in the USSR
The story
It’s been quite a while since I sampled this instrument for the very first time. If you haven’t seen it yet, here is the first version: https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/gusli-perepyolochka/
The old version is unique in its own way. Even though that virtual instrument sounded pretty good, I really wanted to restore the physical gusli to play it live.
And so, I brought it back to life! I replaced the strings with new ones and had to file down the tuning pegs first, as the tuning wrench just wouldn’t fit some of them.
The instrument completely blew me away. It sounds truly magical, incredibly calm, peaceful, and almost fairytale-like. Of course, it would have been a crime not to re-sample it. Since it sounds perfect now, I recorded a ton of samples to unlock the instrument’s full potential. The result is a brand-new VSTi.
It features various playing techniques:
-Fingerstyle;
-Plectrum (plucked in two different string positions);
-Harmonics (flagolets).
Plus, I added percussion sounds played on the instrument’s body. You can use them to create separate percussion tracks or blend them into the main gusli part to mimic a live performance with accidental body taps.
