Galician Hurdy-Gurdy (Zanfona)
The Galician hurdy-gurdy is a traditional string instrument bowed by a wheel and wooden keys (espadillas).
The story
Galician Hurdy-Gurdy (Zanfona)
There were gigabytes of Stradivarius violins, 80s synths, guitars, sampled drum kits, and everything in between… but when it came to the Galician zanfona, there was nothing. Total silence.
The zanfona is a crucial instrument in Galician traditional music. This library is not a perfectly clean or aseptic studio instrument. Instead, it is a library that captures and preserves the natural imperfections of the wood and the raw, real friction of the wheel.
User Guide:
Key Switches (Red keys from C1 to C2): These keys act as switches to select between 8 different types of drones (all drones are tuned to C3).
Drone Activation (C3): Pressing the C3 key will trigger and play the continuous drone type you previously selected with the red keys.
Melodic Range (F3 to E5): This is the main play zone for your melodies. Please note that these melodic notes have an average sustain duration of 4 to 5 seconds.
Mixer:
Drone: Volume of the background continuous drone.
Notes: Volume of the main melody notes.
Key clack: Volume of the mechanical clack and wooden key impact noise.
Reverb: Adjusts the level of the built-in spatial reverberation.
I hope this Galician hurdy-gurdy finds a unique place in your compositions, whether for cinematic scoring, folk music, or modern electronic experiments.
