Super Fat Hand-Dryer Bass

Annecy France, the bowels of a hotel near the business centre a lone hand dryer gasped for customers and rattled out the potential for sub-bassery.

The story

So I was on a mad render-fest for this strings library I’m working on. Thing is it was a family holiday which meant family by day, work by night. There is never a good time to be had in a business centre in a hotel. They don’t offer any single incentive bar “Dad/Mum is not here they have some work to do” privacy. Next to the business centre a seldom used bathroom and in it a very sad looking hand dryer that seemed by the noise it made, very surprised to have a customer.

Something both mechanical and organic about the fan coming to a sudden stop without taking my eye out convinced me of its potential as a rather boysterous sub bassy bassy synth thingy. After a bit of experimentation I was drawn to Ohm Force’s free plugin “Frohmager” which offered me up a degree of tonal steadiness whilst the hand dryer chaotically ground to a halt. The result is a super fat sub bass tone with a wobble that makes it sound almost human, or somehow being compressed by a piece of music playing in another room!
