Pointillism Guitar

A chaotic and beautiful tremolo texture created by a Fender Telecaster.

The story

Recently I’ve become mildly obsessed with sounds that are somewhat chaotic yet beautiful at the same time. I wanted to try and recreate this feeling in my own music and decided since I’ve never created a sampler instrument before, it was about time I had a go at it.

The samples were made using my Fender Telecaster I’ve had since I was 14. Moving in minor thirds from C3 to C6, I recorded 12 takes on each note playing tremolo at random and inconsistent speeds. I recorded this directly into my audio interface, adding some in the box processing.

For me the instrument sounds best with a few tweaks to the envelope and a splash of reverb. I’ve made two versions of the instrument, one normal and one with the samples duplicated and panned to create a wider stereo image.

I had a lot of fun making this and I hope it can be useful for someone.

  • Wonderful warm e-guitar tremolo

I think this is an absolutely lovely patch that you won't regret adding to your collection. It offers some very nice and warm electric guitar tremolo sounds - I wouldn't call them swarms since they are not randomized in any way. Nevertheless I love the sound, and i bet it can get even better with some slight noise reduction treatment.

The GUI gives you very nice controls with nice aesthetics, and there is also an extra patch that gives a wider stereo image. Nice!

  • Beautiful Ambient Trems

As both a guitarist and someone who loves post rock and ambient guitar music, im absolutely in love with instruments like this. They provide such an awesome opportunity to create ambient soundscapes that most of the time sound just as good as doing ambient guitar swells with your actual guitar. Its also awesome because since its a sampled instrument laid out on a piano, you can play chords that would be really hard or impossible to play own guitar. You also have all the advantages and editing options of midi which i love. I really love the tremolos because they still feel very ambient and aren't in your face. The GUI on instruments like these are usually pretty limited but this one is awesome. This will definitely be a go to for me.

  • Lovely chaotic guitar movement

I particularly like the wide version. Add some washy reverb and EQ and it's quite useful, especially when layered with pads.
