Phobos – Canvas (Essential Edition)
Phobos Canvas, a journey through other-worldly and eerie sounds, with custom made "instruments" and a low and high pitched frame drum.

The story
While testing out new microphones, I stumbled upon a contact mic from Korg. When paired with my custom-built “one-string string-able” object, it produced some truly otherworldly tones.
For my next project, I was in search of sounds that felt unnatural—untamed, even frightening. But I couldn’t find what I was looking for… so I decided to make them myself.
The result: Phobos Canvas – Resonant Trio.
I built an instrument using two custom-made “instruments” and a 12″ frame drum. Since I didn’t have a Taiko drum in my arsenal, I tuned the frame drum way down to capture that deep, booming resonance.
The Vulkan Guitar is a custom-made string-able object, just a piece of wood with a hole in it, with a rubber band and a tin string. Its raw sound made the perfect foundation for sonic manipulation.
I also used a bell-shaped object suspended on a string. Striking it produced a haunting, spacious ring—exactly the eerie texture I needed for the bell-pad layer.
The shorts consist of both high and low layers, which you can mix and match to your liking.
I hope you enjoy exploring Phobos Canvas. Feel free to leave a review and share your thoughts.
Thanks 🙂
