The story

The “Lyra Pad” is an instrument created from sampling a bizarre Russian synth called “LYRA 8, Organismic Synthesizer”.

The “Lyra 8” is an unusual synth because it has no filter, envelopes or keyboard entry – just 8 oscillators and individual pitch knobs.

I through the “Lyra Pad” I wanted to explore the uniqueness of tone generated by the “Lyra 8” combined with traditional sampling/synthesis techniques such as envelopes, filtering and LFO’s.

I had great fun with this one, so, expect more instruments from me in the future.

Thanks and enjoy!

P.S. Be sure to try the mod wheel

In Windows, DecentSampler won't be able to locate the sample because in its name there is a colon ":" symbol that is not allowed by Windows, therefore it's replaced by a "_" instead. You can't rename it, so you just need to re-locate the sample in order to make it work.

I recommend you not to give up because this instrument features an amazing sound that immediately gave me goosebumps! I absolutely loved the sound. Even though the samples are stretched and the duration differs, it plays amazingly well. I especially love it while playing with Reverb in the middle, a slower attack and a long release, with the tone filter at around 2.5k. Perfect!

  • Pop Pad

This pad i feel like is so perfect for pop music. Its warm and lush while still not taking up that much space in the mids and lows as other more dense pads do. It has a pleasing and calming tone but still has that modern pop flare. The pitch warbles with the mod wheel are such a cool edition that could be awesome for transitions. I often find instruments sourced from these old fashioned synths to be too aggressive and angular but this one has a really beautiful tone. the GUI offers nice controls which is always appreciated. Its not always needed but nothing is more annoying that wanting to tweak something about an instrument and not being able to.

  • Unique Pad

This pad is indeed lyrical. It is gentle and has a sort of gentle graniness about it that makes it more interesting than a standard pad. The inclusion of attack and release controls are appreciated, as is mapping filter cut off to mod wheel. there are a lot of pads on PB, and so it's difficult to make something that stands out. However, there's always a lot of need for really food pads, and this one definitely ticks that box. This is a worthy download for sure!
