Kenari Chimes

This is a simple library for an Indonesian instrument called "kenari chimes." It's essentially a mark tree made out of seed shells.

The story

Here’s a simple Kontakt library I created for an instrument that I’m not sure has previously been sampled before. Kenari Chimes are a traditional Indonesian musical instrument made from Kenari tree seeds, and strewn through a series of strings, to produce an instrument functionally similar to that of a mark tree. They produce a soft, mellow, earthy tone, that should be good for new age, soundtrack writing, or even lo-fi beats.

What I put together here has two main patches, one with 70 “short,” one-shot recordings of the chimes, and another with 14 infinitely looping recordings of the chimes, that you can use for longer, sustained playing. Also included are 20 “With Effects” patches, that process the samples through Kontakt’s onboard effects options.

Reviews

  • Highly recommended!

Ben is such a talented musician and he really knocked it out the park with this!

The instrument not only sounds great, but has a large variety of uses within any composition.

I'm really looking forward to what Ben does next, as he's got such a unique and interesting collection of musical instruments that are just waiting to be sampled.

  • Unique shakers

I quite like these, I added them to my collection of ethnic percussion sounds. They would fit really well in cinematic productions.
