Kalimba (G Pygmy)

A natural sounding instrument with an interesting improvisation mode

ByIlian Ladov

The story

A pleasurable musical instrument that was bought as a gift. I couldn’t resist, I decided to create a virtual analogue.

The sound of the kalimba is soft and soothing, meditative and charming. Of course, playing it is a pleasure, feeling the sound waves directly from the instrument.

I tried to preserve the charm of this instrument. There are many free vsti kalimbas at the moment. Let there be another one, perhaps its sound will be useful to you.

The instrument had a G Pygmy tuning. I made 2 presets:
1) Original Pentatonic (G Pygmy) – for playing only original notes. Use the white keys, improvise and do not think about the details of the music, the melody will come by itself.
2) Chromatic scale (Additional notes) – for playing melodies in any keys. This preset has an expanded note range.

Reverb and delay effects have been added to the virtual instrument to give the sound space and power.

This virtual instrument has a Round Robin cycle, which gives life to your playing.

You can see the capabilities of the instrument in this video:

I hope this vsti will be usefull, and this kalimba will be added to your collection. All the best!
