Kalimba And Piano Lovechild

A hybrid instrument created by a kalimba and a baby grand piano.

ByJoshua Meltzer

The story

Here is another “Lovechild”. I blended an old Kalimba with my 1930’s Wurlitzer Baby Grand. I processed the Kalimba in various ways and added some Eventide Blackhole on it for a more cinematic scope. Stripped down it can be a little more raw and Tom Waitsy. I also created some pads from those sources. “Kalimba And Piano Cinematic Ensemble is a multi featuring all the instruments!

Reviews

  • Beautifully captured great combination of instruments

I could actually hear the kalimba, as it has a character itself even when transformed to a long pad like this. An excellent combination of instruments - so beautiful.

  • Wonderful Combinations!

After reviewing many instruments by Joshua, I've come to the conclusion that he is a very creative individual and a very talented sampler for sure. He has the ability to create wonderful combinations of instruments, such as this one. Inside you will find two multi-patches, one of which is the Lovechild itself. It is a combination of 5 instruments that make you want to play more and more, and it can easily fit in many different genres of music.

One of the instruments in this multi is a "regular" kalimba, but it doesn't do well on its own, so I don't recommend using that alone. The other multi is called "A Gorgeous Void Pad" and it is indeed very gorgeous. It features a "blackhole" pad and an ambient kalimba based on reversed samples. Both of these are featured on the other multi.

In typical Joshua fashion, there are no controls over anything, but that's ok because the patches are perfect anyway. Just an idea: this could be named just "Lovechild"!

  • Whoah! Another Winner from Joshua!

What a lovely combination of a Hugh Tracey Celeste Kalimba and a soulful piano! Love all of the additional patches which add dimension and life to these great samples. Such an inspiring combination!
