KALI-2297 // Realistic Kalimba Library

A simple, realistic, (optionally ambient), kalimba library.

The story

There isn’t as grand a story as most for this library, I’ve never been able to find a free kalimba library I liked, and I wanted to get into making sample instruments. One thing I’ve always wanted in a kalimba library is for the notes to panned somewhat like a kalimba, alternating left and right as you go up the scale. This library started with a 17 note kalimba tuned to C minor, and has been transposed to fill in the gaps, a little more upper and lower range, and of course the panning.

Everything is recorded with a single MXL993 condenser microphone into a Clarett and edited/exported in REAPER. It’s quite hard recording such a quiet instrument, especially since I’m new to this, so expect a wee bit of white noise adding up if you play more than 4 notes at a time.

I wasn’t quite happy with just a picture of my kalimba, and after searching a little bit, (and an hour of editing) this photo was perfect.

It’s my first library ever, so it might not be perfect, but it was an easier project to start my journey and I have more planned so I hope you all like it.
