Italian Typewriter

A Decent Sampler instrument and samples pack recorded from an old Italian typewriter.

ByS. Martinelli

The story

This typewriter lied under my bed for years before getting revived for this virtual instrument!

Before personal computers landed in every house, many and many families had one of these cheap, clunky mechanical typewriters for taking notes, writing letters or try to be the next big sensation at Strega prizes and most of these curious machines were provided by a notorious italian brand.

This particular one wasn’t touched by an award-winning author in its entire working life but it does produces interesting noises when you strike its keys and roll some paper in it.

With it’s blue plastic chassis, it’s ready to write your next love letter and share some old, cool, mechanical extravaganza with anyone curious enough to explore it a bit.

The sounds were recorded in a treated and insulated StudioBricks recording booth, captured with a matched pair of Warm Audio WA-14 microphones in mid/side configuration through Focusrite preamps and edited for a natural, realistic sound.

As a composer for digital medias, I’m always on the hunt for inspiring samples for my productions and I hope it’ll be helpful to the music community, a music composer, an sfx artist or a producer passionate about weird found sound.
Have fun using this instrument and feel free to use the samples in any kind of project!
