Overtone singing drones accompanied by Tibetan Singing Bowl overtones.

ByJoshua Meltzer

The story

I am a hobbyist and or closet overtone singer/chanter. Back off ladies, I’m spoken for 🙂 I recorded several passes of me singing while attempting to get some cool overtone textures. My cat looked at me differently ever since, but alas I did catch a few moments. Unlike my monk mentors, I have the ability to pitch stuff way down and it works great as a single note drone. Its a bit worldly but still has some sonic mangling in it to make it a bit modern too, I hope?

I also recorded a Tibetan “Singing” Bowl as well. This I kept pretty simple and let the natural overtones do the heavy lifting.

  • Nice combination of exotic sounds

I played a drone pad with a Tibetan bowl, and awesome!! Very exotic set of voices. I really appreciate these playable and exciting instruments!

They say he can survive by eating one a leaf a day and conjure birds out of thin air. Either way the Tibetan Bowls are awesome with long evolving overtones which make for truly spiritual pad sound. As for the Overtone Singing Drone - it's really well done and super effective. I feel the need for incense and a bell. Now sit down and cross your legs...
