Fish Can Kalimba

A beautiful old Kalimba made from a fish can.

The story

The Kalimba was built over 30 years ago by my grandpa from an old fish can. I found it at my grandma’s a few years ago and took it home with me. The kalimba sounds very metallic but still good.

  • A tiny tinny kalimba, literally

Since this is a custom-made Kalimba instrument, it is bound to be a little different than your generic Kalimba. And if you pay attention you will notice it, but juuust a little. Since this is a fish can, you can really listen to the can itself. It's a more metalic and tinny sounding than others, and this might be just right for you.

  • Great basic Kalimba

Expertly sampled kalimba. It's definitely up-front and in your face. It has nice tonal balance and it ready to be a lead instrument in a mix!

  • Unique sound but others i prefer

I love the story behind this kalmia and its so cool that you sampled it. Now its kept alive forever. The kalimba does sound metallic like you mentioned. It sounds a little brighter than most kalimbas and has a pretty strong attack. Its also recorded very well and sounds clear. While theres certainly nothing wrong with this instrument there are just other kalimba on pianobook that i prefer both the overall sound of them and they are more deeply sampled. This is still a really good job though
