The story

As part of my MA in Electronic Music Production, I have recently been studying Kontakt scripting to create instruments.

With a career and background in graphic design, I have been able to produce wireframes and visuals influenced by the NI Play Series instruments.

The background image was sourced from Unsplash and treated in Adobe Photoshop before adding an animated rain effect in Adobe After Effects. I created the volume and effects controls in Adobe Photoshop and added an outer glow.

My synth sounds were created using both hardware (Deepmind 12 and Korg Opsix) and software plugins (Arturia Pigments and The Legend HZ). All sounds were sampled at 24 bit 48kHz using SampleRobot 6. This helped with loop points, which could be manually tweaked if necessary.

The atmospheric sounds were also sampled at 24 bit 48kHz, edited through Ableton Live to enhance the binaural effect.

This is my first attempt at creating a series of Kontakt instruments. I’ve provided a user guide, a demo and some snapshots in the download folder to get started.

Any comments or feedback would be appreciated for future developments.

Reviews for Atmospheric:Tokyo

  • Interesting idea and good realisation

I met Atmospheric Tokyo a couple of days ago. And it turned out to be a very inspiring encounter. The night, the rain and the sound of the synthesiser for some reason referred me to ‘Blade Runner’.

    Great job.
    - good sounding instruments and atmosphere
    - engaging visuals and stylisation
    - sufficient set of effects
    - availability of snapshots

What was missing (purely because I saw a request for feedback in the text)
    - the presence of a ‘Hold’ option on the atmosphere sounds
    - to get rid of the atmosphere sounds from being affected by effects

Now I get around this by running two instruments at the same time, one of which has only ambience sounds (I select the preset I want and duplicate the track, and then loop the ambience sounds on the duplicate).

    - more possibilities to influence individual instruments (for example, I can change the duration of individual tracks and loop fragments).

Again, both instruments (Tokyo and Bristol) are interesting and inspiring. My comments are just a response to a request for feedback. Thank you.
