The story

Music is what kept me sane through a week of brain-dead self-isolation, and naturally that had to include some kind of creative sampling.
A while back, Christian showed us that we can create a piece of music purely from wine glass samples, and as I have never sampled one, I decided to have a go!
I hit it, tapped it, and pinged it in as many ways as I could think, and (after breaking just one glass) set about crafting these sounds into instruments.

This tool kit contains 5 sounds. A melodic ‘ping’; a soft pad; a set of percussive sounds; a synth; and a textural pad.

I have suggested upper and lower pitches for each instrument, but the magic in these sounds develops when you start to manipulate them even more; adding reverb, delay, portamento…

These sounds aren’t groundbreaking or award winning in any way, but they add a tool to my arsenal that I didn’t have, and contribute to my journey through sampling.
Perhaps more importantly, this project has inspired some awesome ideas which I hope to share with you soon.

  • A fresh take on an old classic...

There's no shortage of wine glass sample instruments, but this one stands out from the rest. There's plenty of sounds beyond the standard pads and some really ethereal processed textures. This instrument truly is a perfect toolkit for all wine glass-related sounds. Great work here!

  • so much you can do with one sound

This instrument just shows how creative people can get with sampling, making so many different sounds from the same source. Being more into chill and beautiful music i really love the pings and the pad. both of which are mellow, glassy and have a great tone to them. The synth isn't so much my taste but thats what's so cool about a toolkit. Theres bound to be at least one thing in here for everyone. Reversing the wine glass pings also creates such an interesting and awesome sound. i won't be forgetting about this one.

  • You won't have to hit your glasses

Wesley did it for you, and it sounds lovely! The 5 patches included are very well sampled, and unique to each other. I too think that the Ping patch steals the show, but all the others shouldn't be ignored at all. The GUI won't offer any options, except for a Dry/Mix knob. It's unfortunate because the synth and pad patches could certainly use ADSR settings. The modwheel though is set to a hidden vibrato setting which you can use in those.

  • A nice 'ping' sound plus a lotta extras

As the name says, this is definitely a tool kit built off a very simple wine glass sound. I think the melodic ping actually ended up being my favorite out of all the presets, but there is so much more to play with. A close second is the synth preset, it has a retro bitcrushed sound which I can use a number of genres. The pad is also great, I see so often a missed opportunity when creating an instrument without some sort of ambient pad version of the sound. There is even a neat percussive preset that I was messing around with having as part of a glitch drum set!

  • A wine glass, an instrument...

The main 'ping' patch is the star of the show and the dx7-esque bell tones this instrument provides are a real winner. Great work!
