The story

I sampled this xylophone last year at my school, it is an instrument I have played right from my early years as a percussionist through to my grade 8. It has always been one of my most favourite sounds from the percussion family, I have played just about every genre of music on it and I absolutely adore it. Like my Adams Marimba I have sampled every note as HITS and ROLLS but this time with two dynamic layers which I have again set up with key switches and coloured blue in the kontakt keyboard!

  • Excellent Xylophone!

This is a well-recorded and playable xylophone. The samples are pretty even across the range with one or two exceptions. There are two velocity layers and rolls, but no round robins. Even so, this is a highly useful sample pack, and I'm sure it will be turning up in many of my pieces!

  • Rolls are a nice edition

This instrument has a really woody and tonal sound. Its really organic and characterful. The dynamics are good but we definitely could have used some robins for more realism. The rolls are a really nice edition. They can be used on their own with delay and reverb for a really cool effect. The GUI only lets you controls reverb but this is ok since there is really no need for ADSR on this sound. The key switches should also be mentioned in the GUI because i didn't know about them until i read alexes review. Really nice instrument overall

  • A proper, simple xylophone

Similar to the Adam's Marimba, this is a very nice sampled instrument with a realistic and not too unique sounding Xylophone, which is definitely not a bad thing! The sampling job is great, white noise won't be noticeable in a mix, and it plays well for sure. Same with the Marimba, the coloured notes are the ones NOT working, and the uncoloured ones is the actual range, which is quite big for a xylophone I think. There are two keyswitches that switch between single hits and rolls, but this is not indicated in the GUI, which only contains a Reverb setting which I'd like a different design for. Other than those minor issues, this sounds and plays really well.
