Old Metal Funnel
An Old Metal Funnel bowed and struck

ByClay LaHatte
The story
This little library comes from a couple of samples of an old metal funnel that my Dad had since before I was born (1963). It is about 8″ in diameter.
One day I noticed that, well, it seemed to have nice ring to it. So I sampled it using my Tascam DR-40 recorder at 96kHz.
I struck the funnel with my finger. I also bowed the bell end with a violin bow, which made a sound that was extremely high picthed, but at 96kHz I was able to use it at lower frequencies with no problem.
There are several different sounds in this little library, including bell sounding hits and lush pads. Regarding the pad, once I happened upon a nice sound from the bowed sample in Kontakt, I then stuck that through a bit of Valhalla Supermassive, Blackhole at about 95% mix, and a bit of Valhalla Shimmer for good measure. I thought it sounded superb, so I went about sampling that for every note on an 88 note keyboard, up to F#6 as Kontakt couldn’t play the 96kHz sample at a higher pitch than that.
I hope you can find it useful. Thanks for listening!

A little dark and ambient pad
Very nice! I really like this a little dark and ambient texture. I will be using this for my music!
Instant inspiration
The Funnel Bowed Organ patch is great! I had to reduce the reverb. But then it is full of relaxed character!
Clay has done it again!
This library has a whole mess of amazingly great sounds from FM like plucks to organs, to things that defy description but are cool and fun to play. Everything's sublimely recorded, perfectly edited, and super playable. The Mod wheel introduces interesting variations, and this is another phenomenally useful library from Clay.
