The story
I grew up near the historic Neanderthal Valley, where the first Neanderthal skeleton was found in 1856. The valley itself was named after the significant 17th century hymn composer Joachim Neander, who often visited the area and composed in nature.
Impressed by Nils Frahm’s use of pipe organs and also Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar score, I wanted to learn more about this instrument. Through a friend I got the opportunity to sample the local pipe organ in my old hometown. My project was supported by a grant from the German Federal Government for Culture and Media and the German collecting society GEMA.
