Whistle Drones

A simple Decent Sampler instrument to create naturally evolving drones and atmospheres

The story

The sample this instrument is based on is a very quick and dirty recording on my phone of an unidentified high-pitched noise that was in the air when I was out for a walk. Still don’t know the sound source to this day. The sample languished on my hard drive for a while until I decided to build a few Decent Sampler instruments to create drones for my latest album, Seasons of Discontent. Because the sample is fairly long, and has a lot of natural movement in it, it works well to get drones that are not static. I applied some EQ and gentle pitch correction to the sample to give it a bit more of a defined pitch so it works OK to play in key.
