FOF Choir – Matrix

Ostinato vowel patterns available in 120 possible permutations

ByPMEDig

The story

Inspired by Stockhausen’s Stimmung (for 6 vocalist), I generated ostinato vowel patterns, using Csound (see FOF Choir instrument) of 4 out of the 5 vowels a, e, i, o, u, (triplets 3) in 8 different rhythms ranging from 4 whole notes to 4 sixteenth notes. I used the Matrix (see also my Sansula Matrix instrument), to cluster these different rhythms in 3 notes.
These rhythms adapt to the tempo of your DAW. Every note has a different ostinato vowel pattern, one of the 120 possible permutations.
You can individually assign the different rhythms to each cluster of 3 notes, or use the randomize button (or red keyswitch) to get a random assignment. With the column select buttons (or yellow keyswitches) you can also assign the complete range to a rhythm.
The instrument is available in Kontakt 6 and in DecentSampler format (split into 9 instruments: random rhythm pattern, 8 rhythm patterns (4 whole notes – 4 sixteenth notes) as 60bpm loops)
Developed in CSound 6.15, Kontakt 6, DecentSampler

  • Fun inspiring retro choir

I really like the FOF Choir instrument, but this takes it to a new level. This instrument is incredibly fun to play and experiment with, and when you get something cool out of it you can almost hear the rest of the arrangement building up around it. The matrix idea would be good for all kinds of sounds, but I think it's particularly well suited for the FOF Choir.

  • Instant fun

Got inspirational sounds in seconds!!!!! Looking forward to playing with it even more. Loved the organy overtones at the top end. Instant rhythmic patterns. Brilliant. Even managed to get some Mongolian Throat Singing out of it. I don't have enough time in my life for this kind of fun!
