Lyra Sextet Swarm

A 48 oscillator swarm created from a sextet of Lyras

The story

The Lyra has to be my favourite synth of all time, why? Well because its bloody expensive and impossible to use. Ergo not many people use them…. AND because they’re ideal for sampling.

What I particularly like is getting the 8 oscillators to establish some kind of self cancelling unison. The only problem is in order to get that real multi oscillator swarm effect you’d ideally want to pan them….. and Lyras, well they’re mono. So I asked the lovely people at Soma Labs if they had any spare for us to borrow and lo and behold they sent 5!!!

So here is my Lyra Sextet 48 oscillator swarm. But keep an eye out on my channel and spitfire’s channels as I suspect this is not the last you’ve se! Enjoy! C x

  • Filthy... In a good way

The sampling of the multiple Lyra 8's from Christian yet again defines what PB is about. Bringing a range of inspiring sounds to people and also making something accessible that would otherwise be fairly out of reach to a lot of people. The patches here don't differ a huge amount from each other, however there is plenty of ways to modify and warp the sound given that this runs in Logic Sampler. If you want those Gnarly detuned synth sounds with plenty of distortion along with it, look no further. This rocks!

  • Lots of Character

While personally i dont tend to use these types of synthesized sounds, i can't deny this is an awesome library to have around providing a unique sound and lots of ways to play around. Its pretty dynamic for a synth instrument which offers more emotion in your playing. The Pitch Bend legato type of playing is an awesome edition and gives you so much more freedom to spice things up in melody writing. Also the distortion offered is really phat. I think EXS24 provides a more accessible way to add stock effects than kontakt because its all right there on the GUI, you dont have to go digging. While i can't see myself using this very often its a very unique sound and fun to play around with

  • Various distorted synth sounds

This very small download package will provide you several semi-different synth sounds that have some kind of distortion on them. They sound really good out of the box, but you shouldn't stayt here! I think Christian wants you to go hard on them and distorted them even more!

  • Detuned synths

This is an interesting sample pack, presenting some unobtainable synths. The timbre is thick and rich and dripping with analog goodness. Some of the patches are heavily detuned to the point where you have to stop and consider where you're going to use them, but there are some patches which are less detuned. The inclusion of multiple velocity layers is really nice as it does make the instrument a lot more playable and expressive. It's pretty cool to get a glimpse of what it's like using these amazing instruments.

  • Lovely "legatos"...

For those running Logic, it's a great library. Having the pitch bends to mimic legatos between the notes is what really sells it. Fun to use and a really cool sound! Great work!
