The story

I’ve been loving using the other samples from Pianobooks so figured it was time to try making my own. This is the sound of some old wind chimes which have such a pure tone I couldn’t not sample them. They consist of 5 metal tubes which are tuned G6, A#6, C7, D7 and F7.

The Wind Chimes instrument is simply each of these notes with the notes time stretched down to give all the chromatic intervals.
The Wind Chimes Random instrument is a series of samples spread across the keyboard which capture the enchanting sound they make when the pendulum is allowed to swing randomly.

Hope you enjoy!

  • I love em!

I was actually looking for something like this, and fortunately this one is just perfect! There are two patches, the main one, which you can play very chime individually, and the random one, which randomizes them in a very nice way for you. Awesome! The random one is very quiet though, and if you raise the volume you might start getting some white noise.

It's definitely worth it though! As for the main one, I think that the playable range is set one octave higher than I'd expect for the sound, but that's just me I guess.

  • Authentic Sounding wind chimes

This sample pack presents some really authentic sounding wind chimes. There are lots of velocity layers 10-11! so it's almost as good as having a bunch of round robins. The release is a little too short for my taste, but that's easy enough to modify within EXS24.

  • A little too synthesized for me

Although i think this sound is pretty cool, i much prefer the natural sound of wind chimes, im not really much a fan of this sound designed take on them. They have a video game quality to them which i would never want in my personal music but i think these could be really cool for certain kinds of video game scores. Its a cool idea sourcing the sound from chimes but im personally just nit that into the end result. Good job anyway.
