The story

I finally create my first sound library “Pianochord”. The sound are recorded using a ZOOM H2N from my piano strings stroked with a pencil , I kept all the imperfections of the samples that gives a very musical sound, thank you Christian Henson, thank you Jon Meyer !!!

For now it is only available in EXS format, but I will make a version for Kontakt.

I hope you will enjoy it as much as i did 🙂

  • And now for something really different

It's hard to stand out in and amongst a field of excellent contenders in the piano sample category. It's hard to find that spark of inspiration that leads you to something different than what everyone else is doing. Quetzal has found that spark. This is especially awesome given that it is a first submission to PB. This 'struck' piano is so different, but still lovely and useful. It's worth noting that the sound of the pencil striking the strings is more audible on three strings: C3, E2, A1. By moving the start times a little later on these three notes, you can make them blend better with the others. These samples do suffer from a rather high noise floor, and would benefit from some noise reduction. These little issues aside, this library is playable, inspiring, and a really amazing first effort. Congratulations on making something so special and unique!

  • Interesting Idea and Unique sound

This sound is almost like a subdued version of a harpsichord. This could be really awesome if you want to go for a less bright in your face sound. As mentioned the imperfections are left in , you can hear the pencil hitting the strings which some people might not like but i think it adds to the character. I personally dont know where i would use this, it doesn't really inspire me but everyone should try it out themselves because its pretty cool

  • A smooth-sounding harpsichord

If you don't particulariy enjoy the original, more harsh sounding attack of a harpsichord, you will love this - if you are ok with a few notes having an annoying "tick" sound that you can't get rid off, while others sound very smooth. You also need to know that it's not really dynamic and the more hard you go on the keys, the more white noise you will get. Other than a questionable "old western street" photo theme, you won't find any settings either, except for a wonky tremolo effect controlled by the mod-wheel.
