The story
When I sampled my M&W Piano and Melodica Soprano (https://www.pianobook.co.uk/library/melodica-soprano) I didn’t really get Christian’s message, which I now call “Sample and Mangle”, so here is the clean Melodica Soprano mangled in Cubase Padshop2 and incorporated into the Photosynthesis Engine (see the enclosed PDF guide for more information).
“MW” on the instrument name signifies that the Modwheel controls the Filter CutOff.

Great sampling with lots of control
The pads sound very nice and intimidating, and they are sampled very nicely. The organ sounds a little rough to my ear, and in general the patches offered are very wet by default, but luckily everything is controllable so you are very open to do as much sound design as you want. In typical Photosynthesis fashion though, the step sequencer works only if you play just one note and breaks if you mess up the second one - unless you quantize it or play perfectly, so be sure to keep that in mind if you want to go for a more complecated sequencing.
Amazing GUI, Average sounds
These sounds range from massive sounds which remind me of a pipe organ "Huge melodica pad" to a thin and nasal "PS Melodica Organ". They're all well recorded and edited, but none of them are particularly striking. There are a few glitches in the loops where you can hear the loop points very clearly. It's difficult to record melodica to begin with, but it's difficult to tame it to turn it into different sounds. Bob has done a great job in his attempt to do just that!
Not super useful for me
i already dont love melodicas in most scenarios so im already biased against this instrument. Although these sounds are fairly deeply sampled and well programmed i personally find them to be a bit nasal and honky. I know this is what a melodica sounds like but this is just my personal taste about the instrument. The GUI offers decent control which is nice, especially controllability of the reverb which is really useful and overlooked in other libraries. I find the photosynthesis engine to be a bit overwhelming at times but im sure there are people who are more used to it than i am. Im also sure that many people will really enjoy this instrument but for my personal taste im just not that into it. Good job though
