The story

I’ve been meaning to learn about sampling for a while and seeing some of the excellent submissions to Pianobook gave me the inspiration I needed to dive in.

My first project had to be something simple so what we have here are a selection of lid pulls/pushes and scrapes on various toiletries from my bathroom.
No velocity layers, no round robins. Just simple percussive hits laid out on the white keys from C2 to F4.

Recorded with a Zoom H4N’s internal stereo mic and an SM57 in my bathroom (for a bit of authentic ambience) then noise reduced with RX Elements.

There is a plate reverb control too, for more cavernous facilities.

  • Really useful little percussion kit

This honestly a small but really useful percussion kit. I think these sounds would be perfect for more organic styles of electronic music that use foley percussion. I especially really like the scrapes. I love using scrapes as percussion layers. They can almost act like reverses and kind of pull you into the next beat. It would be cool to have more dynamic layers and round robins but i dont think its nearly as neessary on this instrument as it would be on hand drums and things like that. Really useful overall.

  • Some dry bathroom snaps

The sampling is almost noiseless which is always great.. They come in a barebones patch and feature a very dry sound that always works well with adding effects. The samples are not dynamic, which make them a little artifical in case of repetitions, but it would work great in a more EDM environement.

  • Unobtrusive small percussion

This library isn't fancy, but it is super useable. What you get is 17 fairly nondescript small percussion sounds which are well recorded and edited, and which are the perfect thing for those moments when you need something small and rhythmic and just can't bring yourself to use yet another egg shaker. These sounds are great!

  • Not a bad sound; may need some FX

If you're looking for some nice percussion snappy sounds, this is perfect. I would suggest throwing some reverb or delay on there to make the sound standout. Enjoy!

  • Intimate percussion that could benefit from more programming

It's a solid effort for a percussion library with a really intimate sound. However if this has a bit more attention on the dynamics/velocities it could be quite useful for some.
