The story

“Sometimes, film scores require the assistance of electronic elements, but these can be difficult to place in the stereo field and can often dominate the frequency spectrum. In response to Christian Henson’s Creative Cribs episode with Tom Fuller, I created this pack of simplistic Basic Backdrops, designed to enhance your scores with subtle, breath-like burbles. This pack was created principally using my harmonica.

Recorded using a single AKG C214, each pad contains a single sample from my harmonica, warped and sculpted carefully into soft even tones.

I hope you find this library to be useful! Check out the video walkthrough and tutorial below to learn more: https://youtu.be/jSlEZKzdAgw”

  • Simple and elegant, versatile pad must have

It is like Dan knows what people are looking for when it comes to sound creation. Very tender and beautiful tone of pad, it is simple but no boring. Emotional and inspiring. GUI is also simple but beautiful!

  • More subtle than a drone or heavy soundscape

More subtle than a drone or heavy soundscape. This allows a much lighter and more elegant soundscape that does not alter the tone or rhythmic texture of the mix. Again, Great work, Dan!

  • Goodness me - less is more!

A lot of work has gone into making these pads so effortlessly usable. The simplest presentations, more often than not, are the ones that have been thought about just that bit harder. Beautifully pragmatic and very creative. Thank you Dan.

  • Does what is says...

Sometimes you just need a subtle pad that will add some depth but not clutter up a mix and that's where this library is useful.

  • One of the Piano Book greats!

This is definitely one of the most classic libraries on the PB site. I think its staying power is due in large part to the fact that it ticks all of the boxes: It's a very usable sound, it's perfectly playable, well programmed, and has just a little bit of character. It does one simple thing, but does it really really well. It's one more reason that we follow Dan!
