The story

My good friend Eva travelled – pre-corona – the world as a guide. One time she got us wineglasses from the Sidney Opera House. Glasses with lines that tell you what pitch you’ll get if you fill them to that point. Hours of fun 🙂

For this project I recorded one glass with several microphones.
A pair of DPA 4011 in x/y stereo, a Townsend L22 in stereo and a Stam U47 for the mono feed.
The recordings lasted roughly a minute per note and I recorded every note twice.
The L22 and U47 are forward sounding, the DPA’s are reversed.
Recorded range is shown in green.

Click the Unicorn for Delay and Reverb controls and a custom Convolution Reverb.
Modwheel controls the overall volume.

This virtual instrument was specifically made for the Swedish TV-show “Festen”.

  • Ambient, soft, tender textured library

Concept is very interesting! I really love the sound of this warm, tender texture of piano and the glass. I would like to use this for my healing music.

  • Dreamy Perfection

This is possibly one of the best ambient Pianobook instruments I've used. You can feel the glass, but in such ambience that is quite unique. The sound is overall amazing, there is no noise or cracks, and the range feels complete. There are mic positions and effects, such as Delay, Reverb, Grit, Filter, that work very nicely with the instrument, and provide extra customization for the artist.

I do believe that you shouldn't be able to click the Unicorn icon for the extra settings. I'm sure you can have both information and all the settings displayed nicely with no extra clicks.

Except for the GUI which I believe can be improved a lot though bare in mind I am coming from a graphics design background, this instrument is simply perfect and it's unbelievable it is out there for free.

  • No Whining About this library!

This library has some beautiful bowed glass sounds. At first, I couldn't get it to make any sound, but CC 11 acts like a lowpass filter, so you have to have it up a bit to get sound out of it. These samples are well recorded, and the GUI is functional and provides a lot of options in addition to being pink and fuzzy! The reversed samples are a lot softer than the other samples and take a very very long time to develop and bloom. I was left wishing for ADSR or at least AR controls on the GUI for easy adjustment. I tried diving into Kontakt to see if I could shorten up the attack, but alas, these samples were recorded with a long attack, so you can't shorten it beyond a point even up opening up Kontakt. That's a little disappointing, but it's not a dealbreaker. The sounds are well recorded and it's cool to have the option of multiple mics. These samples are playable and inspiring! I'm sure many people will be using them in their productions in the months to come!

  • A lot of Character

This instrument is very weird and dreamy, at first i thought it was a bit boring but the more i played with it the more i liked. Some of the notes have this very weird effect where they almost take a second to ramp up and have some kind of pitch bend up into the note which is really interesting and gives a-lot of character. The tones are really awesome and ambient but i find they get too resonant at times. I would definitely eq out some of these resonant frequencies if i were to use this. The GUI is also really nice, i see people complaining about having to click the horse to access the effects but i don't mind this, i actually think its kinda fun. Great job

  • Masterfully designed, as always...

All of Anders libraries and very well put together and designed, so great job with that. Personally, I find the wine glass sound to be a little bit plain with this library, but that's most likely a result of the hundreds of similar libraries that I've heard. If you're looking for a good wine glass sound then this library is the way to go! Great work here!
