This is my first atttemp to create a full sampled instrument. Last month I came across an old and broken ZX Spectrum with a 6581 SID chip and I’ve managed to repair it enough to capture a couple of samples. Nothing fancy, just some sinewaves and squarewaves. But as I’ve learned following Chistian Henson and the Pianobook community is that every sound can be manipulated enough to mutate in a great instrument.
I’ve tried to create and instrument that is playable but that still maintain the original sonic characteristics of the SID chip.
The package also contains 10 curated presets.
I hope everything works and that you will enjoy playing with it.

A thoroughly enjoyable family of instruments
I had so much fun trying out the presets Julian supplied with his instrument – or rather, a whole family of them, since to my ear each preset qualifies as a discrete instrument. For anyone curious, for my demo ‘The Gardener In White’ I incorporated the ‘basic’ 6581 in my demo, along with the ‘Ambient’ variant, Arp Two, Crushed, Disturbed and Organised – some with the addition of one or two plugin effects and the Ableton Glue Compressor to hold them all together in a synth group/buss. Excellent work, Julian; nothing inspires creativity more than instruments that are fun to play with.
