The reason I went with .ncw for Evergreen Voyager was that the uncompressed .wav version was more than 7 gigabytes and that was way too much for most people’s patience when downloading and the .ncw version was closer to 5. Also, since the instrument has so many different samples that are at various stages of being crossfaded into each other in the instrument’s code, it would be difficult to find a way to package the samples that made them accessible in a meaningful way for someone who couldn’t use the interface that controlled them. My next Pianobook instrument will be much simpler and smaller in scale (did somebody say cassette tape distorted drum library? 😉 ) and so there’ll be no problem including the raw .wav files for anyone who wants to use them and maybe even a .sfz version of the samples as well!
